Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery is a topic that many women consider but for an array of reasons are hesitant to investigate. Many feel that their bodies are what they are and they shouldn't try to alter them. Others fear they will be viewed as vain for considering plastic surgery particularly for their breasts. The reality is that breast reduction can be a life altering procedure at several levels from self esteem to physical comfort and mobility. Time and gravity are unstoppable forces and will have an impact on women's breasts. Weight gain and hormone changes can also influence the seize and volume of middle aged breasts often as well. This can create discomfort in the back, shoulders and other areas that can be debilitating and have a negative impact on the quality of life. Add to that the longing for a more youthful size, shape and form of the breasts and you have a perfect candidate for breast reduction surgery.
Breast reduction surgery is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.
Breast Reduction procedures have one of the highest satisfaction rates in plastic surgery. Unlike breast enlargement, which is done for cosmetic purposes, breast reduction is often a medically necessary procedure, covered by insurance, to help reduce back pain, neck pain, rashes and skin irritations caused by oversized breasts. Large breasts make it difficult for women to exercise and often invite unwanted attention, stares and rude comments. Breast reduction is often combined with a tummy tuck, and is performed in a hospital or out-patient surgery center. Women who have breast reduction usually return to work in about a week, and the swelling and bruising take 2-4 weeks to improve.
